If I Change The Way I Look, Will You Love Me?

A sarcastic look at how shallow western society has become. Although what matters is on the inside, we value only what is on the outside.

An Unconventional Affair

2023

One of my only pleasures is the feeling of hot water. My friend’s girlfriend (who is a therapist) mentioned that it was common with lonely people to get an endorphin hit from warm water as it replaced the feeling of a human connection or hug. Another pleasure ruined!

One Day My Son, This Will All Be Yours

2022

On the face of it, this piece is pretty obvious. A father used to be proud of what he would be leaving behind for his son, but not anymore. When I was at University (many years ago now), I wrote an essay with the suggestion that one day all new plastic and metal production would be banned, meaning that we would have to go back to all the dumps to recycle what had previously been thrown away as trash. In that instance, however far fetched, the owners of the dumps would truly be kings, bringing the original phrase 'One Day My Son, This Will All Be Yours' full circle to its original positive connotation.'

No One is Coming to Save You

50 phones wait patiently to receive an emergency call. Each has a unique mobile number that is only one digit away from a country’s emergency number - a number that might be pressed incorrectly in a speedy panic to reach police, fire brigade or ambulance service.

No one is allowed to answer the call.

A lobster shedding its shell reminded me of our yearly cleanout of good clothes because a brand is no longer in fashion.

I Want To Scream But I Can’t Let It Show

2024

We all know our way of life isn’t sustainable, but the system has been created to ensure we can’t live outside of it. Mortgage, peer pressure, health insurance. It makes me want to scream out loud but I have to play the game. Walk in, scream your lungs out, and no one will hear you.

We All Need Roots

Having roots makes life possible and enjoyable. Visitors are given a small strand of hemp root and can add to a tree’s roots as it spreads across the floor.

You Have Less Time Than You Think

If we all knew have little time we had left, maybe we’d get off our lazy arses and do something purposeful.

A visitor inputs their age and country of birth into the system, and the machine tells them, statistically, how long they have left to live.

The Social Butterfly

Many artists paint beautiful butterfly or angel wings on walls for people to take a photo with. Smallfry has done the same but instead uses the bright beautiful colours of the insecticide companies that are killing them all.
